Ahmed Amr Morsy

I am a Ph.D. student at the Institute of Mechanical Systems at the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering at ETH Zurich under the supervision of Paolo Tiso

I obtained my BSc degree in Building Engineering at Ain Shams University (Egypt) and my MSc degree in Civil Engineering, with a specialization in structures, at Politecnico di Milano (Italy). I worked as a structural engineer for a short period of time before joining the Haller group in February 2021.

Current Research

Model order reduction of joints exhibiting friction nonlinearities
Assemblies involving joints are commonly found in mechanical, civil, and aerospace engineering applications. In cases where the dynamics of such structures are influenced by friction, high-fidelity numerical modeling is required to obtain predictive simulations of their dynamic response. Yet, the feasibility of such analyses is hindered by high computational costs on one hand, and by the inevitable variabilities of friction system parameters on the other hand. My research thus aims at developing an efficient reduced-order modeling strategy for joints that lends itself to parametric analyses.
